Tibetan Freedom Concert

A short story…

The Chinese invaded the peaceful country of Tibet in 1950. Since then they have been under Chinese communist rule. The Chinese have killed over 1.2 million Tibetans and destroyed 6,000 monastaries. The Tibetans are a peaceful people led by the Dalai Lama and resist the Chinese rule without violence.

Tibetan Freedom Concert is the name given to a series of rock music festivals held in North America, Europe and Asia between 1996 and 2001 to support the cause of Tibetan independence. The concerts were organized by the Beastie Boys and the Milarepa Fund.

The Milarepa Fund initially created to disburse royalties to Tibetan monks sampled on the group's 1994 album Ill Communication. The Milarepa Fund's co-founders were Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys and social activist Erin Potts, then in her early twenties, whom Yauch had met on a trip to Nepal.

The idea for a Live Aid-style concert for Tibet was conveived by members of the group during the 1994 Lollapalooza Tour.

Organized in June 1996, the first concert was held in San Francisco and featured acts such as Smashing Pumpkins, Cibo Matto, Rage Against the Machine and De La Soul. It drew 100,000 people and raised over $800,000 for Tibetan and social justice causes. Additional concerts were held until 2001, generating public awareness about the Tibetan plight, particularly amongst young people. The concerts helped spur the growth of Students for a Free Tibet worldwide.

THE BEST SERIES EVER

The series tell the story of an American Federal Agent who must fight against terrorisms threats on U.S. His name is Jack Bauer and he was interpreted by the actor Kiefer Sutherland.
As a member of the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU), Jack must stop bombs, viruses, assassination attempts…

For the moment, there exists six seasons and the events were all based in Los Angeles and nearby locations of the CTU.

The concept is original: every season of this series has 24 episodes which is shown in “real-time” (each minute of airtime corresponding to a minute in the lives of the characters). Each episode run time is about 45 minutes for us. But, it corresponds to 60 minutes in the series (because of commercial breaks).
So, the a
gent has 24 hours to safeguard the nation from terrorist threats and he has to be awake during this time!

Jack Bauer used to break CTU protocol for the missions he has to accomplish. He makes disagreement with people and their superiors who work with him. But, he manages to convince some agents to help him. Then, this is by his own way he will succeed to counter the enemies. He also usually saves someone he cares about at the same time.

Jack Bauer is interpreted by Keifer Sutherland.

He is the main character of the series.

Kimberly Bauer is interpreted by Elisha Cuthbert.

She is daughter’s Jack and she is often kidnapped by the terrorists to make pressure on Jack Bauer.

David Palmer is interpreted by Dennis Haysbert.

He is the president of the United States; friend of Jack Bauer, he has confidence in him.

Tony Almeida is interpreted by Carlos Bernard.

Federal Agent member of The L.A. CTU and then director, he is a team-mate and a friend of Jack Bauer for the first six seasons. He will become a terrorist, enemy of Jack for the seventh season (!!!???)

The screenwriter's strike delayed the broadcasting of the season 7 and it will begin in the United States in January 2009.

COUNTER-STRIKE : SOURCE

Here is one of the best game that I know.

CS: Source is a multiplayer tactical first-person shooter.
In the past, I didn’t like this sort of game because it gave me headache. But this game is especially exciting and it’s really absorbing.

The rule is the following: either you incarnate a terrorist or counter-terrorist. Then you chose a server on the Internet among a maximum of 150.000 and you played online with human gamers of all over the world !!! Moreover, there is a lot of maps. So, you’re not ready to be bored.

Besides, it’s more funny to play with friends because you can laught at them when you shooted at someone!^^ So, it’s essential to create a team for joining our forces against the enemy.
My team is composed of 3 members, me and 2 other friends. Sometimes, we declare wars via a special website and we fix a rendez-vous to play a match in a Team vs. Team. This competition is stressful because it is about saving reputation of the team!

The two best screenplay I prefer are:

- Deathmatch: You must be quick!
You rescusitate automaticaly when you died. The more you kill, the more you have better weapons. The match ends up until a player cut an enemy with the last weapon, a knife, which is the most difficult to do because it’s necessary to approach the enemy.
This screenplay is exciting and it’s for freaking out.

- Bomb/defusing bomb: you must be strategic!
When you died, you reappeared in the next match. At the beginning, you can buy weapons, grenades, defusing kit (…) with money you must manage by yourself.
The bomb can be put down by terrorists in “Zone A” or “Zone B” of the map. For the counter-terrorists, you have to stop all the terrorists by killing all of them and/or defusing the bomb. You must be methodical with our team.. Happily, thanks to the microphone, you can speak, coordonate our movements and inform the position of the enemy.

The sensation is guaranteed! There is no fantasy. This game is very realist.

Some statistics…

63% of first-person shooter gamers play at Counter-Strike. It is the game the most played online in his category.

CS doesn’t need important ressource. A pentium and a standard graphic card is enough. But, the new current computers are able to make the most of the resource of this game. This is one reason of his success.

How To Reappear Completely

Radiohead are coming back!

After four years since they released its last album, Radiohead are releasing In Rainbows, their seventh studio album, available October 10th.

The newness is that the album is not offering by records shops owner as usual. Its is only distributing in through their website www.inrainbows.com/. (digital download)
Radiohead let people decide how much to pay their new album. It’s up to you!
You can also order a deluxe boxed version that includes the digital download album, a double vinyl disc, a book, eight bonus tracks available on December for a price of 40£.

Radiohead’s contract with their major company (EMI/Capitol) expired after its last record, Hail to the Thief. From now on, they don’t have a record label.
But Radiohead’s reputation give an independant status vis-à-vis to the industry of music. So, the band is able to do offer their songs like they want.

In fact, before In Rainbows released, I knew most of the songs for a long time (more than one year!) because there have been played live by the band for some time, and versions of them are available on the Internet. I notice that there is a big difference with studio album, that’s why I feel disturbed with my first listening.
I am not used to the sound of the album yet. I think it’s a good album but it is necessary to listen to it again and again to form a real opinion.

However, I feel disappointed by the poor sound quality of the album. Indeed, song’s compression are only at 160 kbps (MP3), that's not good enough. So when I listened to some songs, sounds seems too choked off to my sense. I think it put paid to their work! But it seems that downloadable album was just a promotional tool for physical CD, coming soon…

Some statistics shown that 1.2 millions have downloaded the album yet for an average price of 5£ (about 10€).

Nevertheless, I really appreciate this band for a long time because they are great artists and always satisfy their fans. They deserve to have gratitude from all.
It would be damage to fall into illegal downloading. So we have to contribute for artists so far as we can!
